Types of Matters Commonly Referred by Attorneys

JSM Mediation Services accepts referrals for:
  • Workplace and employment‑related disputes.
  • Elder and family‑related conflicts involving decision‑making or care issues.
  • Community and neighborhood disputes.
  • Nonprofit and organizational governance or leadership conflicts.
  • Landlord‑tenant disputes.

If a matter raises questions about suitability for mediation, an initial consultation can help assess whether the process is appropriate.

The Mediation Process for Referred Matters

  1. Initial Attorney or Party Consultation - An introductory conversation to discuss the nature of the dispute, parties involved, and expectations for mediation.
  2. Pre‑Mediation Preparation - Individual pre‑mediation consultations are conducted to clarify issues, communication concerns, and goals for the session.
  3. Mediation Session - Sessions are typically scheduled for four hours and conducted virtually. Additional sessions may be scheduled if helpful.
  4. Agreement Documentation - When resolution is reached, a written mediation outcome is prepared. Attorneys draft and finalize any formal settlement agreements.
